Survivors

Daniel is expecting another unquiet night working the graveyard shift at a Vessel Traffic Services station in Helsingborg, Sweden. Because Daniel is haunted by ghosts of the past. Both in general and quite literally, in the form of Maggie, a vivacious Scottish woman he met on the MS Estonia on 28 September 1994 – the night it sank to the bottom of the Baltic Sea.

Years later, these two passengers meet again to share their secrets and confront what happened – both that night and since. Maggie is as funny and flirtatious as ever, but Daniel is a changed man. So we are led to ask, which of them really survived the sinking?

Survivors takes a bitter-sweet look at how humans deal with disaster, and is at once humorous, touching and sincere.

This performance is part of a series of dramatised readings that are being held around the Baltic Sea to mark the 30th anniversary of the sinking of the MS Estonia.
