Welcome to open auditions for A Scandalous September, a double bill of two Victorian melodramas, each about 45 minutes in length.
The main auditions will be held at the NoName Theatre Helsinki on Sunday 10 May at 12:00-16:00 (in conjunction with the auditions for Short n Snappy #8). Please note that you must register in advance in order to participate.

EAST LYNNE
– by Mrs Henry Wood, adapted & directed by Matthew Paines
A shortened version of the classic 1861 melodrama, famous for its elaborate plot that revolves around infidelity and double identities.
Lady Isabel Vane / Madam Emma Vine – the protagonist (F)
Archibald Carlyle – Isabel’s husband (M)
Barbara Hare – Carlyle’s old flame and second wife (F)
Captain Francis Levison – the villain (M)
Cornelia Carlyle – Archibald’s sister, a figure of moral authority (F)
Joyce – the maid (F)
THE TERROR OF LONDON
– written & directed by Zachariah Chamberlaine
Set in 1838, this play is based on events surrounding the legend of Spring-heeled Jack – myth, monster or prankster?
John Hardwick – a police magistrate (M)
Ursula Ingleton – Hardwick’s cousin (F)
Captain Rupert Culpepper – the villain (M)
Annie / Amelia / Augusta Ashcroft – dubious witnesses (F)
Arthur Ashcroft – a solid witness (M)
Lucy Littlewood – an innocent victim (F)
Thomas Millbank – a drunken suspect (M)
NB The roles of John, Ursula and Rupert will each be played by one actor. 1–3 actors will play all of the other roles – a chance to show off your versatility!

REHEARSALS
Rehearsals will start asap after casting and continue over the summer with pauses for holidays as necessary. Each play will mainly rehearse separately on the basis of overall participant and theatre availability – your availability may therefore effect which play/s it is possible to cast you in.
PAYMENTS
Please note that both the Finn-Brit Players is an amateur theatre company and this is not paid work but an opportunity for people to practice their hobby. If chosen, you will have to be a member to participate in the production. Annual FBP membership (February 2026–February 2027) is 50€ standard and 25€ concessions.
