Imagine, if you will, Maria Callas singing in Victorian London. This is the premise of Marle by Gaslight, where the diva sings seven arias accompanied by piano and choir. The accompanying play attempts to answer the questions left by the arias: How are Lauretta and Gianni Schicchi reconciled? How does the evil Scarpia meet his comeuppance? And what is the link between Desdemona and Cio-cio san?
